Privacy policy

Last updated: 15 October 2026

TallyDish is a small new startup based in New Zealand. TallyDish is a trading name of Pete Buckthought, a sole trader in New Zealand, contactable at [email protected]. This policy explains how we handle personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. We've kept it short and plain.

What we collect

  • Contact details you give us: your name, business name, email, town and the other answers on our audit form.
  • Files you send us for an audit: supplier invoices, recipes and menu details. Invoices can include names, addresses or account numbers of you, your staff or your suppliers.
  • Emails you send us and our replies.

We don't use advertising trackers on this website.

Why we collect it

  • To prepare and send your free margin audit.
  • To reply to you and follow up about the audit.
  • To improve the TallyDish product (for example, learning which invoice formats are common). We only use your information in a form that doesn't identify you or your business for this.
  • To send you occasional updates, only if you've ticked the box to say yes. You can unsubscribe at any time.

We won't sell your information, and we won't name your business or share your numbers publicly without your permission.

Who helps us

We use a few trusted service providers to run TallyDish. Some store or process information outside New Zealand (for example in the United States), so we choose providers that protect information in ways comparable to the Privacy Act:

  • Email (Google Gmail)
  • Our website form service (Formspree) and website hosting (Cloudflare Pages)
  • AI services that help read invoices and prepare reports. Our operations are AI-assisted, and we use settings that stop providers training their models on your files where that option is available.
  • A payment provider (Lemon Squeezy), only if you choose to join the founding café plan. We never see or store your full card details.

How long we keep it

We delete your invoices and recipe files within 90 days of sending your audit report, or sooner if you ask. We keep your contact details and our emails for as long as we're in touch, and delete them if you ask us to (unless we need to keep a record for legal or tax reasons).

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including using accounts protected by strong passwords and two-factor sign-in, and limiting access to what's needed to do your audit.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 20 working days, usually much sooner.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
